You may have heard the phrase, “If you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you’ve always got.” How well do you identify with this expression? For me, this phrase is a constant reminder of how important it was, and still is, for me to break down old patterns so that I could become free to live the life I’ve always wanted.
Chances are, you can recognize that many of us have patterns of thinking and acting that can sometimes lead to negative outcomes. This is human nature! But if you’re willing to spend time breaking down those conditioned ways of acting and reacting, and changing them to bring new positive possibilities, you are capable of such a magnificent quantum leap.
What’s a quantum leap? Have you ever seen a situation in which someone suddenly goes from what seems to be a terrible life experience, perhaps homeless, addicted, or just generally struggling, to leading a happy, successful life with fewer worries? Those are extreme examples, but the principle is the same. It’s a sudden major breakthrough that results not from trying harder or pushing through, but literally, changing the way you think.
The most important step to finding, realizing and making your own quantum leap is understanding and accepting that we all have old patterns that must be broken down and altered to make this big change.
Imagine some of the things that you feel you cannot do or that you’re not good at. Do you ponder these limiting thoughts because someone else confirmed them? I’m willing to bet the answer is no. More often than not, our negative beliefs about ourselves and hesitation to make positive changes by trying new things come from the voice inside us. Many times, we are the ones holding ourselves back.
Since it is our old patterns and habits that are restrictive to our progress, we have the power to change them. What if you could stop the events that lead you down into a bad day or keep you from working productively towards your goals? You can! The first step is becoming aware of the habitual pattern of thinking that accompanies these obstacles. From the foundation of awareness, it’s absolutely possible to change these negative thoughts and patterns to ones that will generate more positive energy in your life.
Moving towards a quantum leap can be as simple as following a series of self-aware, purposeful questions. What is the pattern you want to break down? How did you come to have this pattern in the first place? What may be the hardest part of this pattern for you to break? Once you have taken the time to really look into what makes up this habit, you can begin to directly address how to change it.
Then something amazing happens. Once you begin to shift your patterns of thought, bad days turn to good days. You find “happiness” in new places, and suddenly begin to enjoy each moment of every day for all that it offers and just as it is. Maybe for the first time, that part of you that didn’t believe you could now sees clearly that you are capable of so much, and you can create your own happiness. When you begin to notice these changes in your thinking, you will be well on your way to your very own quantum leap.
