For years, I wished there was some magical key to being happy and satisfied, and I know I’m not the only one. After 34 years, I learned that there was a key, even if it isn’t quite “magical.”
A trying personal journey and many challenging experiences have taught me, above all else, that the only way to truly find happiness is by listening to that voice inside us that knows us best, our intuition.
Knowing that intuition is key only helps if you understand what intuition actually is and how to let it guide your thoughts and actions to create positive change and meaning in your life.
Your intuition is the voice of the soul, the all-knowing part of you that operates on a much deeper, and wiser, level.
One excellent example of this that’s really easy to grasp is what’s known as “mother’s intuition.” With so many different and conflicting ideas about parenting, and what is the ‘right’ way, it is more important than ever that mothers remain true to their innate feelings around the care of their own children. Each parenting experience is unique and what works for some families may not work for others.
Another great example is children themselves. How often do you see children freely expressing themselves, exactly as they are without any fear of how others perceive them? How often do you see adults do this?
We are all born with a connection to our intuition, and with the clear mind of a child, we stay tuned in to this intuitive guidance. We know exactly who we are and love ourselves for it. Over time though, we absorb the opinions and thoughts of others in addition to the guidelines of our society, and we drift further and further from that guiding intuition that houses the real us.
We begin to doubt ourselves and believe in what others are saying, even if it goes against how we feel, and in return, we lose the ability to trust ourselves and our thoughts at face value.
We’ve all been in situations where “something,” often something we can’t explain, guides us to making a certain decision. That “something” is intuition. Beneath the fear-based thoughts that often rule our minds, your intuition is the real basis for who you are, what you want and what you need from life. It is the voice of your truest desires.
We are so lucky, because no matter how far from our intuition we find ourselves, there is always a way back to clarity and happiness that makes life worthwhile.
Allowing your intuition to guide you through life’s choices may seem frightening, difficult and maybe even reckless at first, but once you learn to tap into your inner voice and follow your intuition, you will find that life opens up in so many ways you never dreamed possible. Imagine being that carefree kid once again, free to be as silly or “weird” or quiet as you’d like. Free to be what and who you really are.
Intuition brings clarity, balance, drive and focus to your life, making decisions easier and building confidence in each choice you make. If you know that you are following what your mind and body truly need, how can you feel guilty, unhappy or confused?
Letting your intuition guide, as it was created to do, brings clear purpose to life, and with that comes genuine happiness and bliss.
So what do you have to gain by taking the time to identify with and listen to your intuition? In a word, everything.
As an intuitive coach, one of my greatest success stories is my own. When I first began to spend time with myself and look for happiness within, many of my ideas and goals were not supported by those around me. I chose to dive deep and listen to what my inner voice was telling me, my purpose in life. I took a chance on my intuition, and as a result I was able to accomplish so many things that previously I wouldn’t have thought possible. Certainly not without a good deal more time and struggle. But that’s just not the way it is once you really tune in and connect.
If you are willing to listen and act, your intuition can guide you to lifelong, loving friendships and relationships; a dream career; once-in-a-lifetime experiences and so much more. It can, and will, literally change your life.
Like many aspects of life, knowing the power of your intuition and actually trusting it are very different, and many times, trusting your inner voice to guide you can be difficult, but it absolutely is possible. It is important to remember that during this time of self-discovery, it is okay to ask for help.
What do you think? How could you benefit from allowing your intuition to take control? Before you know it, you’ll be seeing the results of this powerful decision every single day.
