Are there emotions from your past that you’re still holding onto? Did you know that suppressing emotion, especially over a long period of time, can really put a strain on your body and mind? To live a healthy, fulfilling life where everything is in flow, an important step to take is becoming aware of any suppressed emotions in order to consciously release them from your body.
There are many ways of dealing with emotions, and some are healthier than others. Suppressing feelings, instead of accepting, allowing them to move through the body and releasing them, can have an impact years later in your life and you may not always be able to make the connection.
Not giving space to your negative emotions, over time your immune system will start to break down. The longer that you’re living with negative emotions trapped in your body, the worse the effect on your immune system. This means that suppressed emotions from years, even decades past, can show up as anxiety, depression, disease and unexplained niggling health issues.
During my healing and self discovery journey, I have learned firsthand the effects of holding onto suppressed emotions. The longer I tried to ignore my feelings about certain events in my life, the worse things seemed to get. It’s difficult to truly be healthy when you’re holding onto deep negative emotions, especially if you don’t realize that you’re doing it.
This is why I am fully committed to healing old suppressed emotion before trying to move on with other healthy changes. Imagine an apple, growing on a tree. What happens if a worm finds its way inside this apple? Would this help or hurt the apple?
Now, imagine that the worm stays in the apple whilst the apple continues to grow. How much progress can this apple make toward becoming a healthy, ripe apple, if the worm is still alive inside?
Most often we aren’t consciously aware of the cause of our health issues, anxiety and more. We look externally for all the answers instead of internally. If the cause of suffering is suppressed emotion, we need to take steps to release these emotions before we can truly heal. Often, we try to deal with our issues without understanding that the reason for this pain is much deeper and still present in our bodies. You might begin to feel slightly better with practices like nutritional detox and moving the body, medication and in most cases this is suppressing the cause of the illness or issue even further, but as long as those suppressed feelings are inside, they will hold your mind and body back from doing the amazing things you’re capable of and living the healthy, incredible life you know is possible.
The good news is, we can reverse the effects of suppressed emotions, face them and move forward.
